at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Cerro with inurnment at San Pedro Cemetery in

Jaramillo, Darrell Scott
Darrell Scott Jaramillo,
32, of Arroyo Hondo, passed away on June 17, 2001. He graduated from the 53rd New Mexico
State Police Recruit School on June 5, 1993. He was stationed in Chapperal, New
Mexico, for over two years and then assigned to Santa Fe in District One in 1995; he was
then promoted to sergeant and reassigned to training and recruiting on March 18, 2000. His
accomplishments include the following: Officer of the Year in 1996 for the Las Cruces
District, Officer of the Year in 1998 for the Santa Fe District, and Officer of the Year in
1998 for the entire New Mexico State Police. In 1994, for his heroic actions, he was one of
the first recipients of the Medal of Valor, the highest award for a state police officer. He
is survived by his wife Bernadette Jaramillo, daughter Larissa Jaramillo, stepdaughter Rose
Trujillo, and stepsons A.J. and Antonio Herrera, all of Santa Fe; father Nick Jaramillo and
mother Trudy Arellano, both of Arroyo Hondo; sister Darla Jaramillo, of
Albuquerque, and brother Delfino Arellano, of Pueblo,
Colorado. He is also
survived by maternal grandparents Trivinio and Ursula
Martinez, of Questa; uncles
Armando Jaramillo, Edmundo Jaramillo, Paul Jaramillo, Jerry

and husband Maximino of Velarde, and Deborah Padilla and husband Richard of Taos;

Jaramillo, Jude M.
Jude M. Jaramillo could be
explained in many ways, mostly a loving, hyper, giving,
caring, compassionate
and the most sincere of young men are only some of the
special qualities. His
family and friends were able to experience that joy for the
short time he was on earth. Only aged 15, he was taken in a tragic car
accident along with his friend and football team-mate on June 27, 2007. Words
cannot explain our feelings of his loss at this young age. We all hoped one day we would see
Jude play for his favorite football team, The Pittsburgh Steelers. Jude was on his
way, but a divine intervention happened on that fateful day and now Jude plays with
the Big League Angels in Heaven. His family here in Albuquerque, New Mexico deeply loved,
cared and always thought of him while he was on his ventures in Taos. I, Joanna, his
aunt and uncle Victor know first hand the beautiful nature of this boy and having the
privilege of knowing him for most of his younger years, those precious times and memories will
always live in my heart. Most of all, the ones with the most grieving hearts are his
loving mother Nadine, sister Candace and younger brother Nathan, Grandparents Lillian
and Vivian, Uncles Rich and Gabe, as well as numerous relatives, friends and
aquaintances. We will never forget you Jude, you were, are and will always be loved and
terribly missed. May Jesus keep you in His loving arms and in the arms of your mother, Nadine
Y. Saavedra. "Hey Jude, don't make it bad. Take a sad song and make it

Hospital after a lengthy
illness. He was born in 1903. He was predeceased by his wife

1976. Telesfor was survived by daughter Emily Goad of Ojo
Caliente; two grandchildren;
nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral services were
held 10 January 1990 at
St. Mary's Church in Ojo Caliente. Burial followed at the

Teresina Jeantette, 83, of
Taos died on Nov. 1, 2001, in Albuquerque. She is preceded
in death by her husband,
Jose and grandson, Joseph Jeantette. She was born in Taos on
Dec. 9, 1917, to Malaquias
and Rosita Peralta. Mrs. Jeantette worked for many years as
a housekeeper and bartender
throughout the Taos area. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and
raised six children and helped them raise 21 grandchildren. She is survived by her
children, Bernadette Vojtech and husband Joseph, Jose (Dolores), Ted (Pauline, Rose
(Phil) Sanchez, Peter (Cindy) and Leo, sister Katie Montoya, sister-in-laws, Emma
Jeantette and Benita Peralta, 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces,
nephews and other relatives and friends. Rosary was prayed at Our Lady of Guadalupe on
Nov. 2, 2001. Mass of Christian burial was on Nov. 3, 2001 also at Our Lady of
Guadalupe Church with Fr. George Salazar celebrating. Burial was at Las Cruces cemetery in
Canon. Pall bears were Mario, Andy, Peter Jr., Francisco, Jeff, Dominic, Sam, Tim,

Denise Simms Johnson died
peacefully in her sleep December 21, 2006 at her home in Taos. She is survived by her son,
Erik; daughter, Seah; mother and father, David and Betty Lou Simms; brother, David Simms
and his wife, Jane; sister, Cori Ewing and her husband, Steve; sister, Lou Ann
Hillman and husband, Tom; nieces and nephews, Cody, Molly, Jamie, and Jake Simms, Josh and
Cai Ewing, Leslie and Kristin Hillman; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins; and many dear
friends. Dee was born in Albuquerque in 1952. She attended the University of New
Mexico where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and majored in Special
Education. After working briefly as a ski instructor, she went on to form Big J Enterprises with
her husband, Gary, before becoming the First Lady of New Mexico in 1995. As First Lady,
she was a strong advocate of early childhood literacy, child safety, and
anti-smoking legislation. She was a powerful ally and patron
of the arts, and helped
to establish many important collections at museums
throughout New Mexico.
Her most recent efforts focused on the Alumni Association at
the University of New
Mexico where she was working to transform Hodgin Hall into
UNM's new Alumni Center.
She was a charismatic free spirit who loved her family,
friends, and New Mexico. Her
devotion to improving our state was unrelenting, and her
good work here will carry on for generations. She will be dearly missed by
all who knew her. May her spirit of service, abundance of love, and enduring
vitality live on within us all. A celebration of her life
will be held at the
UNM's SUB ballroom on January 6, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu
of flowers, donations

27, 1907 died February 19, 2000 peacefully at home. Jimmy, a veteran of the Navy,
served in World War II. Jimmy came to New Mexico in 1940 and planted the first
trout for the Game Fish Department at Vermejo Park. He lived in Taos, NM "when you could
do anything you were big enough to do". He was an avid fisherman and trophy hunter,
traveling around the world with his wife, Carolyn, who preceded him in death. Jimmy was a
true outdoorsman, who won the respect of anyone who knew him. From 1950-1970 he
owned and operated James P. Johnson Construction. He constructed all the roads in
the Dempsey addition on the northside of Santa Fe, the Glorieta Baptist
Assembly and Black Lake. His company destroyed the Old Penitentiary on Cordova Road. He is
survived by a grandson, Preston Maxwell of Santa Fe; a cousin, Carole Filgo of
Mississippi; a great-nephew, Mike Filgo of Mississippi; and
his guardian, Margaret
VeneKlasen. Gordon VeneKlasen, also his guardian, preceded him in death. Memorial service to be
announced at a later date to be held at Vermejo Park.

James "Jim" W. Johnson of
Bernalillo, NM died Monday, August 18, 2008 after an extended illness. Jim is survived by
his wife of 50 years, Beverly and their three children, Brenda and Wayne Johnston of
Albuquerque, Ben and Kathy Johnson of Rio Rancho, and Bonnie and Reggie Simmons of
Mansfield, Texas as well as his grandchildren, Jay, Cortney and Aaron Simmons, Megan and
Meredith Johnson and Marni and Dakota Mullikin and his great- granddaughter, Lillian
Simmons. Jim is also survived by his sisters, Susan DelMargo of Bernalillo, and
Carol Ann Hale of Byers, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was born in Fairview,
NM on May 2, 1936 to Clarence and Lola Johnson. He grew up in Taos where he
graduated from Taos High School prior to joining the US Army paratroopers. Jim was an
addiction therapist and worked with the VA Hospital in Albuquerque for 13 years.
He also worked as an addiction therapist in his own practice, Apple Axe, before going to
work for the VA. Direct Burial Services in Albuquerque has handled cremation
arrangements for the family. A Memorial Service is being planned by the family to be held
at a later date. Jim was loved by all and will be greatly missed. ABQ Journal August 24,

funeral for Wendell E. Jones, 67, of Countryside Place, will
be 10 a.m. Tuesday at
Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ at the corner of Tansill

will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery. Mr. Jones died Thursday,
May 31, 2001, at Carlsbad

Jones was born April 24, 1934, in Ranchos De Taos to Harlan
Davis Cox and Carlota
Dee Selph Cox. He was adopted and raised in Modesto, Calif.
Mr. Jones joined the
Army and served during the Korean conflict. After his
discharge, he worked in the limestone quarries in Indiana. Moving on, he
became a core driller for the mines in Questa and Phoenix. He married Roberta Gail
"Birdie" Gallegos on April 14, 1973, in Questa. He worked nine years at the Red River Ski
Area in Red River. Mr. Jones became an evangelist in 1983 and pastored a
church in Taos. He and his family moved to Kansas, where he pastored two other churches,
one on the Kickapoo Indian Reservation in Horton and the other in Muscotah, Kan. He
also worked as the site manager for the Lake Village Apartments in Horton. Mr. Jones and
his family moved to Carlsbad on April 13, 1995, where he was manager of the La Huerta
Allsup's. Most recently, he was the assistant to the area supervisor for the Allsup's
convenience stores in this area. His parents preceded him in death. Survivors include his
wife of the family home; sons, Jay Jones and Arsenio Jones of Carlsbad, Robert Jones and
William Jones of California, John Jones of Jacksonville, N.C., and Mike Jones of
Phoenix; daughters, Carrie Patterson of Carlsbad and Carol Seaman of Genoa, N.Y.;
brothers, Charlie Jones of Mayfield, Utah, and Julian Jones of Truth or Consequences;
sister, Emma Duran of Albuquerque; and 16 grandchildren. Pallbearers are Larry
Decker, Steven Garcia, Chris Garcia, Jason Vigil, Jarod Vigil and John Michael Welch.

Pete Joseph, 79, of Taos
died Tuesday December 9, 2003. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Mark Gilbert Tafoya Jr.
He is survived by Velma Tafoya, whom he raised as a daughter, and her husband Mark;
partner, Velda Mascarenas; and special friend, Dorothy Mascarenas, all of Taos;
sisters, Emma Joseph and Josephine Romero; brother, Dennis Joseph; four grandchildren; and
