Pauline Garcia Larson, 63,
of Taos passed away on February 05, 2007. She is preceded in death by her father, Samuel Garcia,
son, Francis Garcia, brothers, Fernando Robert and Sam P. Garcia. She is survived by
her children, Kristina M. Garcia (Mike Hymer) and David Larson both of Tooele, Utah,
mother Evangeline Silva, sisters, Doris Woolley (Rick) and Kathy Hardin, brothers Mike Garcia
(Barbara), grandchildren, Kristin Ruybal (Ace), Brandi Garcia, Ashley Larson and
Monica Stevens and many other relatives. Rosary was recited on February 08, 2007. Funeral
mass was held on February 09, 2007. Both services were held at Our Lady of
Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Lavadie, Cristobal J.
Cristobal J. Lavadie, 87,
passed away on June 15, 2008. He was born in Vallecitos, NM
on May 8, 1921. As a child,
he moved to Taos. Most recently he had lived in Albuquerque
for the past 10 years. He
was a World War II Disabled Veteran and served in the US Navy and US Marine Corp. He was a
retired Medical and X-ray Technologist and worked at Pond Clinic in Taos, the University
of California Scientific Labs in Los Alamos, Los Alamos Medical Center, Los Alamos, NM
and Fairview Clinic, Espanola, NM. His passions were his family, fishing,
gardening, and creating beautiful paintings. He is preceded in death by his late wife,
Anselma (Selma) Lavadie; and grandson, David Montoya. He is survived by three
daughters, Vivian Leoma Coughenour (Frank), Loretta Lavadie Sanchez (Fred), Frances
Montoya (Richard); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces
and nephews. Pallbearers are Fred Sanchez, Frank Coughenour, Keith Coughenour,
Roberto Lavadie, Mike Montoya, and Andy Duran. Rosary will be recited on
Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 7 p.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos. Funeral Mass
will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church
in Taos. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3 p.m. In lieu of
flowers, the family would appreciate contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans

Felimon "Phil" Manuel
Lavadie, 84, of Taos, passed away on October 4, 1999. He was
a former County Assesor,
State Representative, Bureau of Land Management, and loved politics. He did ranching most of his
life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Lavadie. He is survived by his
children, Toby Lavadie (Gloria), Richard Lavadie and Rosina Lavadie. He is also survived by
three grandchildren; brother, Chris Lavadie; and sister, Juanita Montoya. A Rosary was
held on Tuesday, October 6, 1999 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Taos. Funeral Mass will
be held on Wednesday, October 6, 1999, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe in
Taos, with burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Pallbearers will

17, 1998 Rachel May Lawless, 95, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998. She is survived by a
daughter, Patricia Anne Lawless Anaya and husband, Rudolfo Anaya of Albuquerque; son, Don
Richard Lawless and wife, Charlotte of Littleton, CO; granddaughters, Elynn
Molina-Cowden and Melissa Anne Morris and husband, James A. Messec; great-grandchildren,
Kristan Marie Molina, Candace Paige Messec, and Jordan Anthony Messec; niece,
Janice Story Denny and husband, Bill; nephew, Robert Story of Lyons, IN; and by her
lifelong friend, Eleanor Wellborn of Topeka, KS. After the death of her husband,
Norman, in 1980, Rachel remained active until the age of 95. Rachel was born on a farm near
Lyons, IN on May 16, 1902, the first child of Eva Candace and Homer Grounds. Her family
established a congregation of the Church of Christ at West Island, IN, and she was
baptized there at age 12. She graduated from high school and attended Indiana
University, after which she taught school in a one-room school house. Rachel then moved to
Phoenix, AZ, where she worked for Goldwaters and met her future husband, Norman
Lawless. They moved to Belle Plaine, KS, then to Elkhart, KS, where Norman established
a business selling farm implements. They retired to Taos, and then to Albuquerque,
where they continued to enjoy their family and many friends. Rachel was a 50+ year member
of the PEO sisterhood and a faithful member of the Riverside Church of Christ. She
was an inspiration to all who knew her. Services were held Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Chester
T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul NE, with Mark McKenzie
officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial

Thelma Juanita Rawlings
Leatherwood 93, passed away September 27, 2004 in her home in Taos, New Mexico. Thelma was
born April 22, 1911 in Stephenville, Texas to John Henry Rawlings and Cora Catherine
Bullard Rawlings. She moved to Dallas at age 12 with her family. She was a member
of the yearbook staff at Oak Cliff High School, graduating in 1930. She married Carson
Roland "Buster" Leatherwood on July 4, 1942 soon after his enlistment into the
U.S. Army. Their daughter, Ina Kay, was born in 1944. After WWII, Thelma worked beside her
husband to promote their family business, known as the Tidy Didy Diaper Service.
Thelma was a devoted member of the Baptist church for over 85 years. She loved gardening,
and often traveled to Tyler in search of azaleas as well as the Hill country seeking
bluebonnets. She surrounded herself with family, spending time at reunions or entertaining
relatives at her home. Preceded in death by her husband, C.R. Survived by daughter, Kay and
husband Charles Giddens; three grandchildren, Karla Ockels Fitch and husband Mark,
and Leah Ockels, both of Dallas, Rachel Ockels of Seattle, Wash. Two
great-grandchildren, Angus Ockels Talbott of Blanco, Texas
and Soren Ockels of
Seattle. Extended grandsons: David, Stephen, and Mark
Giddens. Grandchildren:
Jeff, Marty, Kyle, Zach, Jacob, Tyler, Brooke, and Jesse.
Thelma was a member of
the Baptist Church community for over 80 years, beginning
with her baptism at Cliff
Temple Baptist Church. She devoted her life to her belief in
God and her love for her family
as well as her friends. Viewing and visitation with family
and friends will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home on Sunday, October 3rd
at 4:00pm. Funeral services will be held at Laurel Land Memorial Park on Monday,

Mr. William F. "Bill"
Lechtenberg Jr., 87, died Monday, October 23, 2006, after a
long bout with cancer.
Born in Sioux City, IA, 1918, he graduated from Iowa State
in Electrical Engineering.
He worked for 42 years with Mobil Oil as a geophysicist
traveling extensively around
the word during the "golden age" of oil exploration. He
retired in 1980 to Taos, NM,
served on various government committees and was active in
the Taos Archeological Society.
Bill is survived by his wife, Willene; sons, Kurt (and wife
Barb), Jim and daughter, Carol;
brother, Robert; and grandsons Erik, Chris, Craig and

Mela Vigil del LeDoux was
born in Talpa, NM, USA, to Josefita Struck Vigil and Jose Benito Vigil on Dec. 21, 1925. She
returned home to her parents on May 18, 2003. Mela was an exceptional wife, mother,
grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend to anyone who needed or wanted one. She was preceded
in death by her great grandfather, Juan Bautista Vigil, grandfather, Juan N.
Vigil, father, Jose Benito Vigil, mother, Josefita Struck de Vigil, sisters, Frances Vigil de

Lineberry, Edwin Charles
Edwin Charles Lineberry, a
Taos native since the 1930's, was given his angel wings on Sunday, July 28, 2002, five days after
his birthday. He is survived by his loving wife, Novella; and his two devoted
daughters, Kathy Deubel and husband, Richard of Albuquerque, and Deborah Salazar and
husband, Joe of Santa Fe; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces
and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Duane
VanVechten Lineberry; by parents, William C. Lineberry and Cleopatra DeBolt Lineberry; brother,
William C. Lineberry, Jr.; sister, Clarice Jane Lineberry Anderson. Mr. Lineberry was
born in Olney Springs, Colorado. The family later moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where he
attended and graduated from Santa Fe High School. After graduation he worked
with his father who was a building contractor. Some buildings to his credit include the
Telephone Company building in Kansas City, MO., the Masonic Lodge building in Crested
Butte, CO., and the dormitories at Adams State College in Alamosa, Co. In 1959,
construction began on the Kachina Lodge in Taos, NM. It was completed in 1960. He owned and
operated the lodge until October 30, 1980. Mr. Lineberry was one of the founding
members of the Taos Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Taos Lions Club
for 59 years. He was a member of Bent Lodge #42 for 55 years and was a Master Mason.
He was also a member of the Ballut Abyad Temple for over 50 years. He also belonged to
The Order of the Eastern Star, Valley Chapter #68. Mr. Linberry was a lifelong
Republican who once ran for State Treasurer and the Taos Mayor's Office. He served several
terms on the New Mexico State Parole Board. For all of his strength he had
incredible softness and was generous to special charities including The American Cancer Society,
Alzheimer's research, American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc., Easter
Seals, Shriner's Crippled Children Hospitals, Carrie Tingley Children's Hospital, Boy
Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of American, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and others too numerous
to mention. Having graduated from the New York Institute of Photography, he was
an accomplished photographer with an eye for capturing nature's beauty. He was a
friend to the early artists of Taos and developed a love and appreciation of their work
which led to his most recent accomplishment-the VanVechten Lineberry Taos Art Museum
built as a tribute to the late Duane VanVechten Lineberry. He was the"most wonderful
husband in the world", a"fabulous" father, and a"very loving and gentle" grandfather,
and loyal friend. He had a special love for his niece, Cindy Parent, who came from Arizona
numerous times to help care for him. A special thank you to Joe Bob and Pat Baker of
Amarillo, Texas for the many hours spent being loyal and devoted friends always
willing to go"the extra mile". The family thanks the many doctors and medical staff who cared
for Mr. Lineberry so many times. A special appreciation is extended to Dr.
Michael Kaufman, Taos Medical Center, for many years of exceptional care. A private memorial
celebration of the life of Edwin Charles Lineberry will be held at a later date. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of Mr. Lineberry's special charities.

April 23, 2000, The Santa
Fe New Mexican, Page: B-2, Nan Lipsett, beloved long time resident of Taos, passed away April
10, 2000 after a brief illness. She was known to many for her generosity to wonderful causes
- The Humane Society, The World Wildlife Fund, The Taos Land Trust, the Nature
Conservancy, and the Taos Animal Shelter; and she was known to most for her faithful
friendship and strength of spirit. Nan was an adobe builder extrordinaire, woodworker and
carver, amateur archaeologist and textile connoisseur, avid reader and lover of
music, an adventurer and traveler who most especially loved Mexico and the people
of Mexico, and she was a devoted and unsurpassed gardener who created a lovely
Japanese garden over a 30 year period at her Taos residence. Nan was born in
Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan in 1925, received a B.A. from Stephens College, and taught
school in Illinois, California, and Taos, helping and encouraging many students during her
twenty plus years of teaching. She fell in love with New Mexico and New Mexicans on an
adventurous archaeological dig at Chaco Canyon, and shortly thereafter made Taos her
home. She is survived by her loving family of friends from all walks of her life and from
all places in the country, including her many, much loved Taos, Santa Fe and California friends,
her archaeological group, and her old Mexico friends. She is also survived by her
nieces, a nephew and an ailing sister. A memorial will be held to celebrate her life and
honor her memory on Saturday, June 3 at the special place where Nan held her traditional
yearly party.

Locker, Corinne
Corinne Locker was born
July 21, 1924 in New York and died July 25 in Corrales, NM.
She moved to Santa Fe in
the late 40's, where she worked for many years with Oliver
La Farge. Upon his
death, she became the Southwest representative of the
American Association of
Indian Affairs. Convinced that Taos Pueblo could succeed in
its efforts to recover
ownership of its sacred Blue Lake, she left the Association
to work as a consultant for
the Pueblo. In that role she was instrumental in winning the
return of the Blue Lake area
to the Pueblo in 1970. (Her papers relating to the Blue Lake
struggle are archived at Princeton
University Library.) She also worked for Presbyterian
Medical Services when they
sought to extend medical care into the Four Corners
checkerboard area. She could recall visiting some clinic sites by light
aircraft, landing on nearby roads, where there were no airstrips. More recently, she was
engaged in water rights litigation on behalf of some of the northern pueblos. At her request,

Loftis, Eunice
Mrs. Eunice Loftis, born
on September 21, 1914 to Jesse and Odie Lovvorn in Texas, peacefully passed away surrounded by
her family on September 8, 2003 in Belen, NM. Eunice, along with her husband Edwin,
was the owner and operator of the Taos Motel for 16 years in Taos, NM. She was also a
member of the First Baptist Church of Belen for 21 years and volunteered her time with a
Spanish missionary group for over 40 years. Eunice is survived by her beloved husband of
68 years, Edwin Loftis of the family home in Belen; two loving daughters, Lou Jane Martin
and her husband, Don of Amarillo, TX; and Sue Jean Thompson of Albuquerque, NM; six
granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren. Eunice's family would like to express
their thanks to Quality Continuum for their care and compassion for Eunice during her
illness. All services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Belen beginning with a

Lois Ann Long (Ranchos de
Taos) went before us on Saturday January 6th. She is survived by her loving husband and
friend of 59 years, Robert Allen Long. She is also survived by her daughter Karin Long of
Milwaukee, WI; son Orv (Robert) Long, daughter-in-law Diana Bamerick of Ranchos de
Taos and granddaughter Talia Bamerick of Durango, CO; son Dr. Preston Long,
daughter-in-law Eileen Long and grandchildren Caitlin and Preston Alexander of
Tempe, AZ. Lois was raised, educated and married in Rochester, IN. She raised her children
in Marinette, WI before moving to Phoenix, AZ in 1973. She owned and operated a small
retail clothing business in Phoenix before retiring and moving to the Taos area in 1999.
The family would like to thank all of their Taos friends for the love and kindness
shown to Lois.

Fraser-Barela-Lopez, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since
1974, died Sunday, October
26, 2003. She is survived by her sons, LeRoy Lopez of
Albuquerque, Charles Lopez
and Mark Lopez and wife, Francis, all of Taos; daughters,
JoAnn Garcia of Albuquerque,
Rosella Nufer and husband, Bill of Costa Mesa, CA, and
Eileen Baca and husband,
Johnny of Albuquerque; numerous grandchildren;
great-grandchildren; and great-great
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband,
Michael F. Lopez; son,
Michael "Buddy" Lopez; daughter, Lillian M. Renteria; and
mother, Margarita Fraser. Mary was born August 12, 1910 in Valdez, NM.
She was the granddaughter of Felipita and William Fraser, a turn of the century
Scottish pioneer who migrated to the Taos area in the 1800's. He was a geologist,
stockbroker, and owner of the first copper mine in Twining. She is also the granddaughter
of Telesfor and Ceova Barela. They operated the first grocery store and restaurant in
Taos Junction that serviced the railroad. They also raised cattle and sheep on the family
ranch in Tres Peidras, NM known as "Barelas Canyon" on New Mexico maps. She
married Michael Frank Lopez February 19, 1934 at St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe, NM.
They both worked for Santa Fe Taxi Service and then went on to run a Conoco station
on Galisteo St. They also sold Wearever and "Santos" around the State of New
Mexico and Colorado. During one of their sales ventures, they ended up in Santa Rosa,
NM where they purchased a gas station on what is now known as "Old Route 66." They
lived and worked in Santa Rosa from 1950 to 1974. They moved to Albuquerque in
1974. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, October 29, 2003, 7:00 p.m. at San Antonio
Catholic Church, in Valdez, NM. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, October 30, 2003,
10:00 a.m., at San Antonio Catholic Church. Interment will take place at Santa Fe
National Cemetery, 2:30 p.m. Friends may visit San Antonio Catholic Church, one hour
prior to Rosary. This poem was written in her Grandfather Fraser's memoirs. Mary
chose the poem to be written for her son, Buddy, in his memoirs and it is befitting her

Loving , Portland, ME. Mary died November 27, 2006, at her home in Portland. She was born in
Waterville, Me Dec. 9,1927, to parents Arthur and Carlotta Heath. Mary graduated from
Lawrence High School in Fairfield and from nursing school at St. Lukes Hospital in New
York City. She is survived by two daughters, Marideth and Victoria Beals and soninlaw Barry
Linder, also two sisters, Emily Nicholas of Augusta and Millicent Donahue of Scarborough,
as well as 13 nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in
death by her beloved sister, Doris Mazzaro, next to whom she will be laid to rest. A
portion of her ashes will be at her family home in Fairfield as well as at her parents
grave site. At a later date the remainder of her ashes will
be spread over the Sangre
de Cristo Mountains in Taos, New Mexico, which was Mary's home for many years. In lieu of

Susanne moved to Taos,
New Mexico in 1997 where he was a parishioner of St. James
Episcopal Church. He
will be remembered as a kind and gentle husband, father and
friend who loved
learning, reading and traveling. A Celebration of Life was
held on Friday, October 14th,

was born September 5, 1956 in Taos, New Mexico. She passed away Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the age
of 52. Lorraine loved being a housewife, mother and grandmother. She will be
remembered for her love of making people laugh and smile and for making jokes all the time.
Lorraine loved to sing, listen to music and loved giving hugs and lots of kisses to her

Arroyo Seco passed away on December 31, 2006. He was a former chief of police for the Town of
Taos and Lt. Colonel in the US National Guard. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and
was a graduate of the FBI Academy. He is preceded in death by his father,
Benjamin Lucero, great uncle and aunt who raised him, Pedro Virginia Lucero. He is
survived by his wife of 33 years, Patricia Lucero, daughter,
Maria Montoya and husband,
Martin and grandson, Miguel Montoya as well as children from a previous marriage, Tony,
Michael, Robert, William, Mary, Helen and Donna, many grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Rosary was recited on Wednesday, January 03, 2007. Funeral mass was held on
Thursday, January 04, 2007. Both services were held at Holy Trinity Church in Arroyo Seco.
Interment was held at Arroyo Seco Cemetery.

person died wednesday about 2:00 PM when he was killed by lighting (Un Rayo) near Romerosville,
Mora County NM. He was on his way home to La Tablazon,NM, accompanied by his wife a
daughter and some other neighbors. They were in a horse drawn wagon and were
crossing the Arroyo del Puertecito de La Estancia,NM when lighting struck killing him and

Nevada; Bertha Martinez of El Rito; 2 brothers Audoro of West Jordon, Utah and Benito of
Dixon; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were 25 May at the St. Mary's Church
in Ojo Caliente. Burial followed at the Ojo Caliente Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ross

(Aragon) Sanchez; husband Lucas Lucero, sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Paul
Martinez of Chamita; brother Jimmy Sanchez and three of her 13 children (Joe Ned,
Mary Ann, Bobby Michael Lucero). She is survived by her long time companion, Meliton
Montano; children, Mary P (Eliseo) Trujillo of Truchas, Albert (Fran) Lucero of Santa Fe,
Stella (Glenn) Hokanson of Bernalillo, Lucas "Jr" Lucero, Eddie (Anna) Lucero, Jerry

passed away January 10, 2001. Mr. Lujan was owner and operator of Lujans Funeral Homes in
Espanola and Taos for the past 37 years. He served in the New Mexico House of
Representatives for 8 years during the Jack Campbell and Dave Cargo Administrations.He was a
member of the Lions Club and La Union Protectiva. Mr. Lujan is survived by his wife
of 59 years, Pita Lujan; his mother, Sofia Lujan of Santa Fe; 1 son, Jimmy Jr. of
Taos; 2 daughters, Frances and husband Gilbert Vela of Albuquerque and Yolanda and
husband Terry Wilson of Espanola; 3 sisters: Cecilia Lynch and husband Edward of
Los Alamos, Mabel Rivera and husband Felix, and Viola Tapia and husband Pete, both of
Santa Fe. Mr. Lujan is also survived by 7 grandsons: David and rey Lujan, Daniel
and Carlos Roybal, Marcos and Gilbert Vela Jr., and Adam Valerio; 3 great
granddaughters and many other relatives and a tremendous amount of friends and colleagues.
Services for Mr. Lujan are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Lujans Capilla Del Valle
and at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Victory Faith Church in Espanola. Funeral services will be
held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the same church. Interment will follow at the Memorial
Gardens Cemetery in Santa Fe with the following serving as pallbearers: Gilbert Vela,
Gilbert Vela, Jr., Marcos Vela, Daniel Roybal, David Lujan, Carlos Roybal, and Rey Lujan.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Steven Gabaldon, Kenny Vigil, Thomas Montoya,
Viola Martinez, and employees of Lujans Funeral Homes in Taos and Espanola.

Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
She was our spiritual Rock and taught us that through God
everything is possible.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Manual N.

Sunday March 27, 2005 at 7:00 pm at Block-Salazar Mortuary in Espanola, Mass of
Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday March 28th at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia De La Santa
Cruz De La Canada, the committal Service followed at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
